The time is finally upon us! The ASU Library Map and Geospatial Hub is moving its physical operations to a specialized new suite in Hayden Library, on ASU’s Tempe campus.
The move will begin in early December 2019. The brand new Hub will be open to the public starting in January 2020.
The $90,000,000 Hayden Library Reinvention, led by architecture firm Ayers Saint Gross, involves a full renovation of all five levels of the buildings tower portion.
Planning and preparation for the Hayden Library Reinvention project began in 2016, when the Map and Geospatial Hub first came to fruition as a reincarnation of the library’s former Map Collection. The Hayden Reinvention project officially started in March 2018, with a projected completion date of January 2020.
The new Map and Geospatial Hub will be located in a significantly smaller, but also technologically enhanced, suite on Hayden's third floor — Hayden Library, Suite 334.
There will be a doubling of computer workstations equipped with a wide range of licensed and open-source geographic information system (GIS), remote sensing, statistical, and related analytical applications. New workstations will be accompanied by large format monitors for visualizing all sorts of geospatial data, such as historic and contemporary maps, satellite imagery, aerial photography, and other forms of cartographic output.
The images above depict a highly simplified (and subject to change) model of the Map and Geospatial Hub’s new interior space (excluding its new public- and staff-facing computer workstations and other furniture).
Be sure to visit the new Map and Geospatial Hub in Hayden Library in January 2020! And, you can always visit the Hub’s web presence at geospatial.asu.edu.
