Across ASU Library locations, nearly 200 student workers help the ASU community access library services and collections. Every year, ASU Library highlights several of these students with the Tomalee Doan LibAid for Student Success to recognize their outstanding contributions to the library.

Meet Harianth Kalavala, a student employee who works at High Density Collections, and is pursuing a master’s in information technology from the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering.
HDC is a storage facility and hub of activity where staff and students connect patrons with books and other requested materials, in both physical and digital formats. One of the largest projects Harianth worked on was creating an inventory of University Archives faculty files ensuring the project was done on time and successfully for university leadership.
“Working at the ASU Library means more to me than just a job, it represents a deeply personal connection to my past and a cherished environment,” said Harianth.
When Harianth received the Tomalee Doan LibAid for Student Success award in 2024, he shared, “Receiving this financial award is an incredible support to my educational journey…giving me a bit more freedom to focus on my studies and my work at the library” said Harianth. “This award will also hold a special place as my very first recognition in the U.S., a meaningful milestone that I will always remember.”
Thanks to generous support from donors, gifts to the Tomalee Doan LibAid for Student Success Award will be matched up to $500. Each gift, regardless of size, makes a difference.

Meet Ariana, a senior pursuing a bachelor of science in Informatics with a Digital Culture focus at the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering. Working at Hayden Library past few years, Ariana is dedicated to helping students at the information desk and bringing awareness to the library’s collections.
“Aiding others in their education or helping community patrons makes my life feel meaningful and I go home every night feeling fulfilled,” said Ariana. “I absolutely love interacting with a diverse range of people and helping them achieve their goals for the day. Even if it's as simple as giving directions or helping someone print, I relish these interactions and feel like a core part of ASU.”
In spring 2024, Ariana was awarded the Tomalee Doan LibAid for Student Success. This award offers funds for technology, living expenses or additional training to further their library career, so that they may focus on the important work to help students, faculty and community members.
