In this series titled “Dispatches from the Field” we highlight stories from members of the Arizona State University (ASU) Library and the Community-Driven Archives (CDA) team regarding activities we are working on. The CDA team at ASU continues to hold virtual get-togethers and we want to thank everyone who has participated so far in our online events. We continue to have amazing turnouts for these events and we are so moved by the response we continue to get from the community regarding our events.
We have a fun event planned for the month of August that we will be hosting via Zoom and are so excited to share with you now. We will be hosting our very first Kids Camp for kids ages 5-9 hosted by our student archivist Denise Mosso Ruiz. Join us for a virtual 3-day workshop series where we explore a number of themes including gender expression through story time, arts and crafts and the exploration of one’s family history through photographs. Beginning on August 10, 2020 at noon the CDA team will be reading “Julián is a Mermaid” by Jessica Love. On Tuesday, August 11, 2020 at noon we will also lead kids in making creative crowns through fun arts and crafts activities. And on August 12, 2020 at noon the team will finish this Kids Camp by exploring favorite family photos with kids and talking about archives and how kids can become community archivists. To register for the event please visit
Please follow us on our CDA Facebook page as well as the CDA Instagram page to keep up to date with our team and the events we will be hosting. And for more details about how to download Zoom to attend these events please visit this link. We look forward to seeing you all at these events and please continue to visit our CDA Facebook and Instagram pages as well as our website to learn more about what ASU Library is doing regarding community-driven archives and the initiatives we are undertaking concerning community archives and community archiving in Arizona. The CDA team here at ASU Library is proud to serve the needs of our community. If there is any programming you’d like to see please let us know either by contacting me, Jessica Salow at Jessica.Salow@asu.edu, or reach out to us via one of our social media platforms. We would love to hear from you your thoughts regarding the work we here at ASU are doing in community archiving around Arizona. We also want your feedback on what you would like to see from us in future blog posts. See you next week!
